Smartshow App: Breaking the UK Event Market

SmartShow LTD is a New Zealand based mobile App developer. In 2010 they developed a unique event App called  ShowGizmo. The event management Application enable delegates attending an exhibition or conference to access event information in the palm of their hand. A mobile phone app to display event information was a brand new concept and this technology was unheard of within the event industry.

In 2011 SmartShow appointed JMB to manage and implement an outbound Lead Generation campaign whilst managing their UK representation and inbound Lead enquiries.

JMB initial role was to conduct a feasibility test and gather market intelligence from the target audience of Event and Trade Fair Professionals. Once phase one was completed, ultilsing market insight gained, JMB conducted a campaign to secure online and one-one meetings for ShowGizmo to introduce the product features to the prospect.

Our Approach

JMB held several meetings with SmartShow to define the proposition, identify the key objectives and gain knowledge of the organisation – a key part of our process when planning new client campaigns to ensure the JMB team are fully equipped with knowledge of the product or service offering; and fully immersed within the brand culture enabling JMB to become an extension of the SmartShow team.

We then commenced a comprehensive lead generation and intelligence gathering process to communicate the SmartShow offering whilst scheduling one-one appointments.

Trade show Representation & Support

SmartShow took part in Confex 2011 and were the official app sponsor for the event. JMB’s telemarketing skills were used in a supporting role.

Trade show exhibitors were identified prior to the event and outbound calls were made to book meeting programmes while at the show. Additionally, JMB were tasked with following up on leads generated from the event by SmartShow staff as well as JMB staff who assisted in attending Confex as exhibition support staff.

Using a combination of calls and emails, JMB secured a number of high profile meetings with top executives at UBM Live, Haymarket, MCI-Group, E-Health Media, Clarion Events and many more.

JMB staff were trained up on the SmartShow product and eventually were tasked with completing online and face to face meetings on behalf of SmartShow, ultimately we were the UK sales office.

The Results

JMB successfully signed up a number of high profile organisations and secured their launch into the UK market.

In addition JMB generated over 20 engagement meetings during the show alone, thus enabling them to build their UK brand presence and gain valuable insight which is imperative to guiding their future strategies and development of their business App.
